Biography
Konrad Mizzi (born 1972) was Malta's Energy Minister when the Labour government awarded the controversial €450 million Electrogas power station contract. Educated as an engineer with an MBA from Henley, he was seen as a technocratic face of the Muscat government.
The Panama Papers revealed he established a secret company, Hearnville Inc., in February 2013—just after Labour's election victory. Despite calls for resignation, PM Muscat protected him, moving him to Tourism Minister instead.
Leaked emails later revealed that Yorgen Fenech's company 17 Black was set to pay $2 million to Mizzi's offshore structure—the same Fenech later charged with murdering the journalist investigating these deals.
